We’re hiring!
Street Outreach Worker
We are looking for a full-time Street Outreach Worker!
We are looking for an individual who has experience working with vulnerable populations and is passionate about empowering people and communities through advocacy and information sharing.
At PEERS Alliance, our work is based in trauma-informed practice and harm reduction. We support those living with and at risk for HIV, Hep C and all sexually transmitted and bloodborne infections by offering a variety of programs and services targeted to diverse communities in PEI. We serve people of all genders and sexual orientations. We support those who use drugs in developing strategies to reduce the risk of negative health outcomes. Our programming strives to address the underlying issues affecting the health and welfare of our communities by countering stigma and creating environments where all are welcome.
PEERS Alliance as an organization and its employees must strive to be anti-racist at all times, in all aspects of our work. We are an organization that values team collaboration, work-life balance, and self-care. The work we do can be heavy and complex, and we prioritize wellness for our employees.
The Street Outreach Workers’ role will include:
Service Navigation: Connecting community members to services and service providers - with an emphasis on connecting individuals to low barrier community services (i.e., Charlottetown Community Outreach Center, emergency shelters etc.), housing supports, and other health and harm reduction agencies.
Participant Directed Advocacy: Supporting participants through interactions with other services providers in order to support clear communication around needs, priorities, and expectations while championing the rights and autonomy of participants.
Harm Reduction Education/Support: Providing harm reduction information, education, and materials to participants and other service providers through nonjudgmental approaches.
Direct Outreach: Engaging in direct outreach activities with individuals experiencing homelessness, and other forms of marginalization, within the Charlottetown area.
The Street Outreach Worker will operate from multiple locations, including the Community Outreach Centre. This position requires a valid license (3+ years licensed) and regular access to a reliable vehicle.
Position Details:

We encourage applicants to indicate in their cover letter if they would like to be considered for employment equity if they identify as a member of any 2SLGBTQ+ community and/or belong to other historically marginalized communities, including if they identify as a person with drug use experience.
This position will include occasional work on evenings and weekends.
As travel around the Island is required, a valid license and a reliable vehicle is required.
This position is full time: 40hrs/week (on average) at the rate of $32/hour and includes a benefits plan and 12 paid sick days/year.
